TFC Info, a worldwide leader in AV market research and consulting, has announced the completion of their recent research study called "The Use of Video Displays (Projectors, Flat Panel Displays, and Interactive Whiteboards) in Education 2009/10."
This research is a detailed survey of projectors, interactive whiteboards, and flat panel displays conducted among 680 AV display users and purchasers in K-12 and higher education. This exciting report covers a wide range of issues for each video display technology, and allows manufacturers of these displays to weigh customer experience of their technology against their experience of competing technologies.
The research, conducted in conjunction with AV Technology and Technology & Learning Magazines, analyzes the education market (K-12 and higher education), their purchasing habits, and preferences for advanced video displays.
Some of the important topics in this 220+ page report include: what are each of these displays being used for in K-12 and higher education settings, where are these different displays being used within a school or on campus, what are the benefits realized from using each of the display types, what weaknesses or obstacles to use do different technologies have to overcome, why are more teachers not using advanced displays, what are the most important purchasing factors, which display technology fulfills particular needs best, and more.
"There is an important link between technology and learning, and in the past this link has been primarily in the higher education market," states Tanya Lippke, TFC Info Manager of Survey Market Research. "Educators in higher education have been more open to incorporating technology in the classroom and funding has always been generally more abundant. With the trend of downward pricing, in price-sensitive markets such as K-12, investing in more AV technology is finally a possibility for more schools. Stimulus funding has also helped many of these schools to acquire more advanced displays."
TFC Info estimates 2008 US sales in education at about 463,000 projector units and 432.3 million dollars. Clearly there is a lot of business potential, especially as more schools begin incorporating projectors, flat panel displays, and whiteboards in their technology initiatives.
The trends in education are pointing in the right direction - tech savvy students, a need to enhance the learning experience, pressure to improve test scores, new younger teachers open to using technology in the classroom, and the ability for more schools to purchase video displays as price points have dropped. There is a steady increase in video display purchases to come and with the right tools those brands that can position themselves now will benefit the most.
