TFCinfo Projector Tracking Reports Reveal Increasing Consumer Demand drives Rising Projector Shipments.
by Dr. Jeffrey Macdonald, Senior Analyst
TFCinfo, in its recent US Projector Market Analysis Report, reveals that consumers are playing an ever-increasing role in driving projector sales during the second half of 2003. The pronounced availability of value priced 1000-1500 lumen (bright) SVGA projectors priced below $1,000 has been an important driving force in capturing the interest of consumers. Their newfound interest is driving increased sales for the industry.
In the third quarter of 2003 consumer involvement in the projector market has also been fueled by the increasing visibility of projectors as additional retail chains, such as Best Buy, Sam's Club, and Circuit City have continued to introduce projectors into their retail locations.
Monthly retail projector sales have grown an average of 65% over the previous quarter in the third and fourth quarters. In addition to increased sales, the ramp-up of projectors in new retail chains and the anticipation of increased holiday consumer demand have even further accelerated projector shipments from manufacturers by causing a substantial increase in retail inventories.
The TFCinfo Monthly Projector Market Analysis Report now includes a breakout of the retail channel.
TFCinfo International Projector Brand Strength Study Reveals Some Interesting and Exciting Movements Among Projector Brands
For the past three years, TFCinfo has been tracking various aspects of projector brand management such as brand awareness, brand affinity, and brand associations. This report aids companies who are tracking the convergence of the commercial, consumer presentation and entertainment markets. This longitudinal study also enables manufacturers to not only measure brand awareness and affinity, but to also measure the success of marketing strategies that have been implemented.
With that definition, InFocus has had a great year! In previous years it was no surprise to see the #1 spots in brand awareness and important brand affinity attributes go to big powerhouse companies that have a strong name in the consumer electronics market. This year, however, we have seen the InFocus brand shift from always being the bridesmaid, to now being the bride.
TFCinfo surveyed 500 experienced users and purchasers of projectors in five of the most important projector business segments: Large Corporations, Small/Medium Businesses, Small Offices/Home Users, Government and Education.
"InFocus has been working extremely hard this year on their branding and marketing campaigns," stated Paul Martin, president of TFCinfo. "And all of this hard work has clearly paid off. In our study we found that InFocus is the brand that is considered most when end users are looking to purchase a projector for their business."
The TFCinfo US Projector Brand Strength Study is available for purchase and will be published at the beginning of February.

by Dr. Jeffrey Macdonald, Senior Analyst
