New Projector Growth Trend Reveals Projector Sales in the Consumer Retail Channel.

Austin, Texas--TFCinfo Corp., a worldwide leader in AV Market Research, reveals its findings in their most recent US Projector Market Analysis Report.

Projectors sold for IT and business use has been a market mainstay for years, but lower prices, greater familiarity, and users' new-found interest in projectors that are optimized for home entertainment as well as business presentations have fostered changes in projector retail. Projector sales in the retail segment can be broken down into two categories: internet retail (with no physical store to visit and compare products), and brick and mortar retail stores. Brick and mortar retail is a "physical" environment in which consumers can walk in and compare the different technologies, brands, and prices of projectors on the market.

TFCinfo's report reveals that brick and mortar retailers are becoming an increasingly important channel for projector sales in the US. The percentage of IT/Retail channel projector sales going through this channel reached a new high of 18.6% in the fourth quarter of 2002 and is expected to increase further as new retail chains begin to carry projectors.

The expansion of projectors into these brick and mortar consumer retailers is an outgrowth of the substantial decline in projector prices over the last few years. At lower price points, projectors are reaching a broader market, as many small businesses and home users are becoming aware of the advantages of projector use.

Leading brick and mortar consumer retailers currently selling projectors include CompUSA, Office Depot, Staples, and Fry’s Electronics. However, the number of these retailers carrying projectors is growing and they are expected to play an important role in the expansion of the US projector market.

"It will be exciting to see what happens in this channel when some of the largest CE Retailers in the country begin to stock their shelves with projectors at price points that are now feasible for the average consumer," stated Paul Martin, president of TFCinfo. "Once national retailers like Best Buy, and Circuit City begin to offer these projectors to a new breed of consumers, things will heat up even further for projector sales in this channel."

TFCinfo's US Projector Market Analysis Report analyzes projector sales, inventory, and price trends in IT and retail channels using a combination of POS and shipment data for the US market.
