CMO claims unreasonable component prices hinder its 7.5G production plans

Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) is indicating it will delay its 7.5-generation (7.5G) construction plans since the cost of key components for TFT-LCD panels makes it uneconomical to migrate production at the moment, according to company vice president Wu Biing-Seng.

Wu pointed out that prices of TFT-LCD key components, especially for backlight modules and polarizers, remain unreasonable. Backlight modules account for almost 40% of the overall cost of large-size LCD-TV panels, and prices are unlikely to drop, Wu said.
